21328 Francis A. Lies Aug. 26, 1919 - Nov. 10, 2014 SOUTH BEND - Francis A. Lies, 95, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Monday, November 10, 2014, at the Sanctuary at St. Paul's in South Bend, IN. He was born on August 26, 1919, to the late John Paul and Katharine (Frisch) Lies in Naperville, IL, and had lived in South Bend since 1933, coming from Aurora, IL. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joy Marie Lies; two sisters, Isabel Cortier, Marilyn Gostola; three brothers, Paul William Lies, Ralph John Lies, Anthony E. Lies; a sister-in-law, Marge Lies; and a brother-in-law, George Cortier. Francis graduated in 1937 from South Bend Central High School. Mr. Lies retired in August of 1983 from Allied Signal Corporation, where he worked as a Contract Administrator from 1952 1983. On October 5, 1945, he married E. Fay Howell in the chapel at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, TX. Francis is survived by his wife, Fay Lies of South Bend, IN; two daughters, Kathleen Ann (David) Wilkening of Yardley, PA, Marianne (John) Wantuch of South Bend, IN; three sons, James Michael (Mary Beth) Lies of Mishawaka, IN, Richard John (Barb) of San Diego, CA, Donald Scott (Barb) Lies of South Bend, IN; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Charlotte) Lies of South Bend, IN; two sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Ned) Kinzie of Haines City, FL, Esta Mae Lies of South Bend, IN; and one brother-in-law, Al Gostola of South Bend, IN. Francis was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, where he served in Saipan as a 1st Lieutenant. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross award and the Air Medal with four clusters. As a member of Holy Family Parish, he was a faithful Catholic and devoted to the Rosary. To the benefit of Pack 320 at Holy Family, he served two years as Cub Scout Master. He and his wife owned the Tastee Freez on Prairie Avenue in South Bend during the late 60's to early 70's. He was a charter member of the 73rd Bomb Wing Association; American Legion Post #284; Associate member of D.A.R.; the former Moose Lodge #58 of South Bend; and a member of the South Bend Genealogical Society. He was also a volunteer at the South Bend Public Library, the Military Honor Park, and the St. Vincent DePaul Society. Francis and his wife loved hosting Christmas for the family. His sense of humor gained him many friends across his interests in golf, genealogy, travel, and volunteerism. Francis F. Walch, 86, 159 E. 4th Street, died unexpectedly around midnight Thursday at St. Anne's Hospice here.

Mr. Walch, who had operated a garage in Rollingstone for 20 years, wass born at Oak Ridge in Winona County Nov. 6, 1878, to Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Walch.

A lifetime resident of this area, he had, however, lived in Sacred Heart Rest Home, Austin, from the first of this year until moving to St. Anne Hospice Sunday.

He married Susan Neyers in Rollingstone Feb. 28, 1905. She died in 1955.

He was a member of the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart and its Holy Name Society and of the St. Nicholas Society, Rollingstone.

Survivors are: One son, Ralph, Orinda, Calif.; seven greandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Arthur (Laura) Speltz, Albert Lea, and Mrs. Edwin (Kate) Schell, Minneiska.

Besides his wife, one son, five brothers and one sister have died.

Funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Burke's Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at the Cathedral, the Rt. Rev. Msgr. Harold J. Dittman officiating. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Rollingstone.

Friends may call at the funeral home Sunday from 2 until 4 and from 7 until 9 p.m. Msgr. Dittman and the Holy Name Society will recite a Rosary at 8 p.m., and the St. Nicholas Society will say a Rosary at 8:30 p.m.

21330 Frank J. Frisch Age 94, of Batavia, formerly of Aurora, passed away Monday, September 24, 2001 at Countryside Care Center. He was born January 21, 1907 in Aurora. Frank was a founder and member of the Batavia Sportsmens Club, and remained a member until the club dissolved. Survivors include two sons, Gerald Frisch of Chicago and James (Donna) Frisch of Geneva; one granddaughter, Cynthia (James) Martin of Batavia; one great-granddaughter, Rachel Elaine Martin of Batavia; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Helen (Sykora) Frisch on October 23, 1999; his parents, John and Elizabeth (Kartheiser) Frisch; and by 11 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 27, 2001 at 11:30 a.m. at The Daleiden Lake St. Mortuary, Sr. Margaret Clare Ragel, S.S.S.F. will officiate with interment in River Hills Memorial Park, Batavia. 21331 Frieders, Joseph N. 1923 - 2009 Joseph N. Frieders, 85, of Aurora, passed away peacefully April 5, 2009, at his home after a long and courageous battle with renal failure. He was born April 9, 1923 in North Aurora. Joseph was a lifelong resident of North Aurora and Aurora. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Joseph married Colleen Hutter on October 23, 1948 at Sacred Heart Church in Aurora. He was employed by Oberweis Dairy for 26 ½ years until his retirement in 1979. Joseph was a member of St. Joseph Church, the Knights of Columbus #736, the L.O.O.M. #400, the Western Catholic Union, the Phoenix Club, the Luxemburger Club and was retired from the Teamster's Local #423. Joseph enjoyed outdoor bowling with the Phoenix Club, vacationing with the Moose Club and was an avid Cubs fan. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Colleen Frieders; their children, Nancy (Thomas) Sowinski of Yorkville, Beth (James) Coakes of Boulder Hill, Joseph R. (Linda) Frieders of Chicago Heights, James A. (April) Frieders of Aurora, Paul E. (Kathy) Frieders of North Aurora, Karen M. Frieders of Aurora and Gregory W.
